After winning three domestic titles last season, Hansi Flick is eager to achieve even more success in the new campaign.
Flick’s first season in charge at Barcelona was outstanding. The German coach is hopeful his team will continue their winning momentum and secure more trophies this season.
Under Flick’s guidance last season, Barcelona delivered brilliant performances, clinching the La Liga, Spanish Super Cup, and Copa del Rey titles. The Catalan club triumphed in all four meetings against their archrivals Real Madrid, including two finals, making it a memorable season.
However, their Champions League journey ended heartbreakingly in the semi-finals after a tense two-legged tie against Inter Milan, with key players Lamine Yamal and Rafinha unable to prevent the exit.
Following this remarkable season, Flick extended his contract with Barcelona until June 2027 last May. Ahead of their Asia preseason tour and an upcoming match against South Korea’s Seoul FC on Thursday, the 60-year-old coach expressed his desire to replicate last season’s success.
“We are focusing on our capabilities and want to move forward with the same goals as last season. As always, we will strive to win every match. It will be a tough season, but we are approaching it with a positive mindset. We have improved the quality of the squad, but it will be a long campaign.”
This summer, Barcelona strengthened their squad with three new signings: Spanish goalkeeper Juan Garcia, young Swedish winger Roni Bardghi, and on loan from Manchester United, English forward Marcus Rashford.
All three made their debuts last Sunday in a 3-1 win over Japan’s Vissel Kobe, with Bardghi scoring and Rashford assisting in that goal. Flick expressed great optimism about Rashford’s arrival.
“Marcus is a fantastic player. I have followed his career for many years since he started at United. He is top class, and we hope he will show that for the team this season.”
Echoing Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Flick confirmed they do not plan to sign any more players this transfer window.
“I have a great team of high-quality players. We have two players for every position and even three in some areas. Managing the squad is certainly not easy, but I am happy.”
Last season’s success was powered by outstanding performances from Yamal. The young Spanish winger scored 18 goals and provided 21 assists. He also became the youngest player to reach 100 appearances for Barcelona. Recently turning 18, the star continues to receive high praise from Flick.
“Last season, we saw that Lamine is a rare talent — incredible. He can always influence the outcome of a match. I am very happy he is in my team and, of course, he will play tomorrow.”
