Barcelona’s attacking midfielder knows that chasing his goals won’t be easy, but he remains optimistic.

After an impressive debut season at Barcelona, Dani Olmo is hungrier for even greater success. Ahead of the new campaign, the Spanish midfielder has already set both personal and team goals.

Olmo, who came through Barcelona’s youth academy, began his senior career at Dinamo Zagreb before moving to RB Leipzig. In August last year, he returned to the Catalan club.

However, his start wasn’t smooth. Barcelona ran into registration issues, which prevented him from playing in several early La Liga matches. Once those were resolved, the 27-year-old quickly showed his value—scoring 12 goals across competitions, including 10 in La Liga, and providing 7 assists.

Currently on a preseason tour of Asia, Olmo shared his hopes for the new season in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. He aims to score more goals and build on last year’s form.

When asked how many goals he’s targeting in the 2025–26 season, Olmo responded confidently:

“Yes, reaching at least double digits would be great,”
he said.
“And yes, scoring 20 goals across all competitions would be amazing. That would make it a great season.”

Barcelona had a stellar second half last season, lifting the Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, and the La Liga title. They defeated Real Madrid all four times they met — including in the finals of the Super Cup and Copa del Rey — and also reached the Champions League semi-finals.

When reminded of Johan Cruyff’s famous quote — “The second season of any project is the most difficult” — Olmo was asked if he expected tougher challenges this year. He agreed.

“That might be true. After winning three trophies and reaching the Champions League semi-finals in our first season, repeating that kind of success could be very difficult. But that’s the beauty of football — every year, you have to start again and fight to win everything once more.”

“My personal goal is to play more matches, and as a team, to repeat last season’s success.”

Barcelona’s campaign to defend their La Liga crown begins on August 16 against Mallorca.
