Inter Miami captain has not confirmed how long the Argentina skipper will be sidelined.
However, Inter Miami’s head coach Javier Mascherano remains optimistic that his former teammate Lionel Messi won’t be out for too long due to injury. While he didn’t provide a specific timeline for the Argentine forward’s return, he did confirm one thing: “Messi won’t be playing in Miami’s next match.”
Miami is set to face Pumas UNAM early Thursday morning (Bangladesh time) in the Leagues Cup.
Messi picked up a muscle injury in his right leg during their previous game against Necaxa. The Argentina captain left the pitch and headed straight to the locker room just 11 minutes into the match.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Mascherano gave an update on Messi’s condition:
“Yes, I spoke with him. The club released a statement, and it was very clear. It’s a minor injury. Amid the bad news, that’s the good news.”
“We don’t like to predict return dates, especially with Leo. He usually recovers very well and typically at a good pace. So, we’ll see — but it’s clear he won’t be available tomorrow. After that, we’ll monitor how he’s feeling and how his recovery is progressing.”
Following the match against Pumas, Inter Miami will return to MLS regular-season action on Sunday against Orlando City.
