Real Madrid’s French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is struggling with an ankle injury.
The midfield woes that troubled Real Madrid last season seem far from over. With Camavinga sidelined again just before the new season, the Spanish club is facing similar problems once more.
On Sunday, the most successful club in Europe announced that their 22-year-old French midfielder has suffered an injury to his right ankle. Real Madrid has not provided any timeline for his return to the pitch.
Adding to their midfield concerns, star signing Jude Bellingham will also be unavailable at the start of the season. The English midfielder underwent shoulder surgery last month and is expected to be out until October.
Camavinga has been injury-prone over the past year, picking up five injuries that limited his playing time last season. He appeared in 19 La Liga matches and 9 Champions League games, finishing the 2024-25 campaign with 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
So far, Real Madrid have not brought in any new midfielders during this summer’s transfer window. On the contrary, Luka Modrić, a long-time midfield mainstay, has left for AC Milan. Naturally, this leaves Real Madrid worried about their midfield heading into the new season.
Instead, the club has focused on strengthening their defense this transfer window. They have signed defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Deen Housen, and Álvaro Carreras. Additionally, Argentine youngster Franco Mastantuono, who turns 18 this week, will soon join the squad.
During the Club World Cup, Real played Arda Güler as a central midfielder alongside Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Bellingham. Real’s new coach Xabi Alonso said, “We will dominate the midfield with whoever we have.”
Last season was disappointing for Real Madrid, ending without any major trophies. Their La Liga campaign kicks off on August 19 against Osasuna.
