Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres all found the net in Barcelona’s opening match of the new season.
With a convincing win, the Spanish champions began their La Liga title defense in style, cruising past nine-man Mallorca under Hansi Flick.
Playing away on Saturday, Barça ran out 3–0 winners. Mallorca, who haven’t beaten the Catalans since 2009, once again failed to pose much of a challenge.
Raphinha put the visitors ahead early before Torres doubled the lead. Yamal, who played a part in both goals, sealed the win with a stoppage-time strike.
The breakthrough came in the 7th minute. Yamal delivered a perfect cross from the right, and Raphinha surged in at the far post to head past the keeper. It was a fitting start for the Brazilian, who scored 18 goals last season.
Mallorca had a golden chance to equalize in the 21st minute, but Vedat Muriqi shot straight at goalkeeper Joan Garcia from close range. They were made to pay almost immediately. After a loose clearance, Torres calmly struck from outside the box to make it 2–0, leaving Mallorca’s players furious that play wasn’t stopped for their captain Antonio Raíllo, who was down injured. Coach Jagoba Arrasate’s protests earned him a yellow card.
Things got worse for Mallorca when Manu Morlanes was sent off in the 33rd minute for a second booking after fouling Yamal. Six minutes later, Muriqi received a straight red for a dangerous high boot that caught Barça’s goalkeeper in the face.
Reduced to nine men, Mallorca sat deep, trying to limit the damage. Yamal twice came close to adding a third before halftime but missed narrowly.
The second half was one-way traffic, with Barcelona piling on pressure. Dani Olmo’s header was clawed away, Raphinha struck the post, and Eric Garcia tested the keeper with a header. New signing Marcus Rashford came off the bench to make his competitive debut but couldn’t find his mark.
The final word belonged to Yamal. Wearing Barça’s famous No. 10 shirt this season, the teenager cut inside, beat two defenders, and curled in a trademark left-footed finish in stoppage time—capping the night with a goal of his own.
