Napoli kicked off their Serie A title defense with a perfect start.
From the left touchline, Kevin De Bruyne stepped up to take a free-kick, curling it high with his right foot. Several players leapt inside the box, trying to get a header, but none managed to touch it. The ball dropped perfectly, deceiving the goalkeeper and nestling into the far corner of the net. Teammates rushed in to embrace De Bruyne as the Belgian star marked his Napoli debut with a sensational goal.
Napoli began their title defense in style, securing a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo in their opening match of the new season on Saturday. Scott McTominay opened the scoring in the first half, while De Bruyne doubled the lead in the 57th minute.
After bringing an end to his decade-long chapter at Manchester City, De Bruyne joined Napoli on a free transfer this summer. The 34-year-old midfielder couldn’t have asked for a better start at his new club.
