Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal aims to advance the country’s football through e-sports.
The FIFA e-World Cup will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this December. Before that, selections for three categories—e-football console, mobile, and Rocket League—will be held in September and October. For the first time, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is scouting players to participate in this competition.
The selection process will run from August 22 to October 6. The initial rounds will be held online, while the quarter-finals to finals will be conducted offline using a LAN setup. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, BFF President Tabith Awal expressed hope that the growing popularity of e-sports among young people and their engagement can help enhance the country’s international reputation and promote the development of football through e-sports.
“Another journey begins for us. That is e-sports. All games fall under the e-sports umbrella. We will focus solely on football. We are optimistic that just as other countries are advancing football through e-sports, Bangladesh will keep pace and move forward,” he said.
Selected players will represent Bangladesh in the Asia-East and Oceania online regional qualifiers. Those who qualify will secure spots in the FIFA e-World Cup in Riyadh—three teams for the console category and four players for the mobile category.
Bangladesh has now officially joined the global trend of recognizing competitive video gaming. On July 13, the Ministry of Youth and Sports issued a notification granting formal recognition to e-sports.
