Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is hopeful that the midfielder will be available for the Valencia match next month.
Midfielder Gavi has been sidelined with an injury, and both Barcelona and Spain are currently without him. Flick confirmed that they expect to have the young player back after the international football break.
Gavi is recovering from a knee injury sustained during Friday’s training session. The 21-year-old is working hard to recover from the setback.
Gavi played in Barcelona’s first two league matches of the season. Barcelona will face Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, and during the pre-match press conference, Flick provided an update on Gavi’s condition.
“Our plan is to have Gavi available for the Valencia match on September 14. Let’s see how quickly he recovers. He looks better today than yesterday. We are staying positive,” Flick said.
Earlier, Gavi had suffered an ACL injury to his right knee, which kept him out of action for 11 months. As a result, Barcelona was without him for a significant portion of the 2023-24 season and the start of last season.
After his recovery, Gavi played 26 La Liga matches, contributing with one goal and one assist to help Barcelona secure the league title.
Spain had named Gavi in their squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in September, but on Saturday, the Spanish Football Federation announced that Gavi would not be joining the national team’s training camp.
Spain will play Bulgaria on September 4 and then face Turkey three days later in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Spain is placed in Group E along with Georgia.
