German clubs top the list of highest earnings from player sales.
As time passes, the financial impact of player transfers continues to grow, becoming increasingly noticeable over the past decade. But this summer’s transfer window has shattered previous records by a wide margin. Globally, clubs spent nearly $100 billion on acquiring players.
FIFA, football’s governing body, released detailed data on the summer transfers on Wednesday.
A total of 12,000 players were transferred internationally, with the overall spending reaching $97.6 billion—a 50% increase compared to the same period last year.
Women’s football also set new records, with 1,100 players changing clubs and total transfer fees exceeding $12 million.
Breaking it down by league, England’s Premier League clubs spent the most. Just the 20 Premier League teams collectively spent over $30 billion on player acquisitions.
Meanwhile, German clubs lead in earnings from player sales, bringing in a total of $8.93 billion.
Of course, they also spent heavily. In terms of expenditure, Germany ranks second after the Premier League, with total spending of $9.8 billion.
