It’s still unclear how long the Egyptian forward will be sidelined.
After Omar Marmoush had to leave the field due to injury while playing for the national team, it became evident that Manchester City would not have him available at the start of club football. The English club has now officially confirmed that Marmoush will miss the Premier League clash against Manchester United.
Marmoush suffered a knee ligament injury in the ninth minute of Egypt’s World Cup qualifying match against Burkina Faso on Tuesday. After the match, Egypt’s team doctor, Mohamed Abu El-Ella, confirmed the ligament damage.
On Wednesday, the 26-year-old underwent an X-ray in Cairo. Manchester City released a statement saying that the preliminary scan indicates the injury is serious, ruling him out of the Manchester Derby. Marmoush will now return to Manchester for further assessment and rehabilitation.
This comes as a major blow for City, who are already dealing with multiple injuries. Marmoush featured in the club’s first three Premier League matches this season, starting two and coming off the bench in one.
Additionally, seven other City players—including Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, and Sabinio—have been sidelined due to injuries since the international break. John Stones, who joined the England squad for two World Cup qualifiers, also missed out due to a muscle injury.
Although City started the season with a win, they lost their next two matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion. To bounce back, Pep Guardiola’s side will face their city rivals Manchester United at home on Sunday.
