UEFA has yet to make any decision regarding the requests to hold La Liga and Serie A matches abroad.
The venue for the 2027 Champions League final has now been confirmed. The European competition’s showpiece will take place at Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano, the home ground of La Liga side Atlético Madrid. The same year, the Women’s Champions League final will be held at Poland’s National Stadium in Warsaw.
UEFA announced this on Thursday following an Executive Committee meeting in Tirana, Albania.
It was also confirmed that next year’s UEFA Super Cup will be played in Salzburg, Austria.
Earlier, it was announced that the 2026 Champions League final will take place at Hungary’s Puskás Arena in Budapest. The Women’s Champions League final that year will be held at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium in Norway.
Initially, UEFA had considered Milan’s San Siro as a potential venue for the 2027 final. However, based on information submitted regarding the stadium’s renovation plans, the decision on the venue was postponed until September.
Meanwhile, UEFA has still not decided on the requests to hold La Liga and Serie A matches abroad. They have stated that a final decision will be made only after consultations with all stakeholders, including fans.
In July, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) gave the green light for AC Milan’s Serie A match against Como to be played in Perth, Australia, next February. The match at San Siro would coincide with the Winter Olympics opening ceremony there.
Additionally, last month, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) approved Barcelona’s La Liga match against Villarreal in Miami, USA, this coming December. However, Real Madrid issued a statement the following day opposing the plan.
For domestic league matches to be played abroad, UEFA’s approval is required first, followed by final authorization from FIFA.
