English midfielder Jude Bellingham’s chances of an early return to action have improved after he resumed training this week.
Following shoulder surgery, Bellingham has come back to training earlier than expected, which has lifted the optimism of Xabi Alonso. The Real Madrid coach believes the midfielder could return to the pitch before October.
Bellingham had been struggling with shoulder problems for the past two years. After Real Madrid’s exit from the Club World Cup, he underwent surgery in mid-July. At that time, it was estimated he would be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks.
But his return to training this week has raised hopes of an earlier comeback. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Alonso shared his optimism.
“I want to stay positive and I hope he can return before October. He has already started working with the team. He is pushing himself to recover and is feeling really good.”
Even without Bellingham, Real Madrid have made a strong start to their La Liga campaign. Winning all three of their opening matches, they sit at the top of the table and will face Real Sociedad on Saturday.
If Bellingham can return by the end of this month, it would be a major boost for Real. On September 27, Alonso’s side will take on city rivals Atlético Madrid away from home.
