Good news for Barcelona ahead of their Champions League campaign. Head coach Hansie Flick and his assistant Markus Zorge have had their suspensions lifted by UEFA, allowing them to take their places on the bench for Barcelona’s opening match against Newcastle United.
Last season, Flick was furious with several referee decisions during Barcelona’s 4-3 loss at Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final second leg. For his misconduct, he received a one-match ban and a €20,000 fine, the same penalty given to his assistant Zorge.
Barcelona later appealed the sanctions, and according to reports from multiple Spanish media outlets including Mundo Deportivo, the club won the appeal. UEFA subsequently confirmed the decision in an official statement.
However, both Flick and Zorge will remain under a one-year “probation” period. If they exhibit similar behavior during this time, the original suspension could be reinstated and new sanctions may be applied.
Barcelona will face Valencia in La Liga next Sunday before beginning their Champions League campaign on Thursday with the trip to Newcastle United.
