What a breathtaking contest unfolded at Turin’s Allianz Stadium. Inter Milan made a spectacular comeback after falling behind twice, raising hopes of a win. But the drama wasn’t over yet! In the dying moments, Juventus scored again in added time, sending their home crowd into euphoria and claiming victory in the ‘Derby d’Italia’.
Juventus won the Serie A clash at their home stadium on Saturday with a 4-3 scoreline in a match full of excitement and tension.
In a unique twist, the sons of French 1998 World Cup winner Lilian Thuram scored for opposing teams: Marcus Thuram for Inter Milan and Khephren Thuram for Juventus.
Inter led in possession and shots. The visitors took 18 shots compared to Juventus’ 12, but both sides had an equal number of four shots on target.
In the 14th minute, inside the box, Lloyd Kelly volleyed Juventus ahead. Hakan Calhanoglu equalized in the 30th minute with a powerful low shot from outside the box.
Juventus regained the lead in the 38th minute. Kenan Ilkidh’s bullet-paced strike from well outside the box found the net.
No further goals came in the first half. In the 65th minute, Calhanoglu scored another spectacular goal to make it 2-2. Receiving a header from a teammate outside the box, the Turkish midfielder powered the ball into the net.
In the 76th minute, Inter went ahead again with a header from Marcus Thuram off a corner. But six minutes later, Khephren Thuram, his four-years-younger brother, leveled the score once more in the same manner.
It looked as though the game would end in a draw, but in the first minute of the five added minutes, the scene changed again. Vasilije Azic, coming on as a second-half substitute, struck a stunning right-footed goal from well outside the box, sending Juventus fans into celebration.
Juventus now sit atop the table with 9 points, having won all three of their opening matches. Inter Milan, after losing two consecutive matches following a winning start, are 11th in the standings.
