Burnley 0 – 1 Liverpool
Liverpool maintained their perfect start in the league under Jürgen Klopp, keeping their winning streak alive.
From possession to attacking attempts, Liverpool dominated every aspect of the game. Yet, for 90 minutes, the Reds couldn’t find the back of the net. At that point, fans may have feared the first dropped points of the season. But in the final moments, Mohamed Salah changed everything. His successful spot-kick preserved Liverpool’s flawless run.
At Turf Moor on Sunday, Liverpool secured a 1-0 Premier League win over Burnley. Salah scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Liverpool held the ball for over 80% of the match and took 27 shots, though only four were on target. Burnley managed just three attempts, none of which tested the goalkeeper.
After four matches, Liverpool sit atop the table with 12 points, three ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
New signing Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, was not in the squad for this match.
From the start, Liverpool applied intense pressure on Burnley, who had won only one of their first three rounds. In the opening 30 minutes, Liverpool dominated possession with over 80% and took seven shots at goal, though none troubled the keeper.
They also earned five corners in that period, but none produced a goal. In the 22nd minute, Liverpool left-back Milos Kerkez received a yellow card for a challenge on Burnley’s Douve inside the box.
Liverpool finally managed a shot on target in the 39th minute, though Andy Robertson’s weak attempt allowed Martin to easily save.
After the break, Liverpool continued to dominate and increased pressure on Burnley. In the 59th minute, long-range specialist Dominik Szoboszlai tried a shot but couldn’t beat the goalkeeper.
Burnley suffered a major setback in the 84th minute when French midfielder Leslie Udogu Chukwu was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Florian Wirtz and sent off.
With Burnley reduced to 10 men, Liverpool finally had a clear opportunity. In the third minute of added time, Hannibal Mejbri handled the ball in the box, giving Liverpool a penalty. A chance to salvage a valuable point turned into despair for Burnley’s midfielder.
Salah seized the golden opportunity, sending Liverpool fans into celebration. This was his second goal of the season in four matches.
