Real Madrid 2 – 0 Espanyol
The French star continues his scoring run as Real Madrid maintain a perfect start to the season.
Defender Éder Militão set the tone with a brilliant opening goal, guiding his team through a steady first half. In the second half, Kylian Mbappé added another superb strike, putting Real firmly on the path to victory. With an easy win over Espanyol, Madrid consolidated their top spot in La Liga.
At Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, the record champions won 2-0. With this victory, Real Madrid remain unbeaten in all matches this season. They lead the table with 15 points from five games, while Barcelona sits second with 10 points from four matches. Espanyol, after suffering their first defeat of the season, also have 10 points and occupy third place after five matches.
Espanyol started the match aggressively, taking early shots on goal, but Thibaut Courtois handled Edu Exposito’s attempts with ease. The visitors failed to create any significant chances before halftime. Likewise, Real’s attacks, led by Xabi Alonso’s squad, were not particularly threatening in the first half.
However, in the 22nd minute, Militão’s brilliance opened the scoring. Receiving a pass from Federico Valverde, the Brazilian defender unleashed a bullet shot from nearly 35 yards, leaving the goalkeeper no chance. That was the only shot on target for Real in the first half, mirrored by Espanyol’s efforts.
At the start of the second half, Real doubled their lead. Vinícius Júnior’s cutback from the box found Mbappé, who scored from about 22 yards. Mbappé has now scored in three consecutive matches across all competitions, with five La Liga goals and seven overall this season.
In the 66th minute, both Mbappé and Vinícius missed golden opportunities in quick succession. Mbappé’s two shots went directly at the goalkeeper, while Vinícius struck the post after capitalizing on a loose ball. Later, Vinícius attempted another long-range effort, but Espanyol’s keeper denied him. Despite their efforts, Espanyol could not change the outcome, and Real controlled the remainder of the game comfortably.
