A string of early-season injuries has left Barcelona coach Hansi Flick deeply concerned.
The German manager had been anxiously awaiting tests on Fermín López, and his fears have come true. The young Spanish midfielder has now been ruled out of action.
Barcelona announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday that the 22-year-old López is suffering from a left leg muscle injury and will be sidelined for about three weeks.
This month, López scored twice in Barcelona’s 6-0 win over Valencia in La Liga. He came off the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 victory against Getafe but was forced to leave the pitch late in the match.
Injuries are already plaguing the Spanish champions at the start of the season. Marc-André ter Stegen, Lamine Yamal, Gavi, and Alejandro Balde are all out, and now López joins that list—a situation Flick hinted at in his post-match comments.
“Three points, 3-0 scoreline, everything seems fine… but because of Fermín, I don’t feel that way. Tomorrow he’ll have tests. Then we’ll know.”
Those tests have not brought good news for Barcelona. The defending champions will travel to Real Oviedo on Thursday, sitting second in the table after five rounds, two points behind arch-rivals Real Madrid.
