Kairat Almaty 0 – 5 Real Madrid
After a shaky start, Xabi Alonso’s side eventually took full control of the match, just as expected.
Kylian Mbappé simply can’t stop scoring. This time, he delivered a stunning hat-trick. Real Madrid brushed aside Kairat Almaty to claim their second consecutive win in the Champions League.
On Tuesday, at the Kazakh club’s home ground, Xabi Alonso’s team ran out 5-0 winners. Along with Mbappé’s treble, Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz added the other two goals.
With two victories from two matches, Real Madrid now sit at the top of the group table with six points.
Still hurting from the frustration of a 5-2 derby loss to Atlético Madrid and fatigued after a 6,400-kilometer journey, Real Madrid looked a bit unsettled early on. Almaty nearly struck in the very first minute of the historic night, but forward Dastan’s header from close range went straight at the keeper.
Madrid’s first real chance came in the 14th minute when Vinícius Jr. broke into the box but failed to find the target. In the 21st minute, Almaty’s keeper denied Mbappé’s sharp angled effort.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute. Franco Mastantuono charged into the penalty area and was brought down by the goalkeeper, earning Madrid a penalty. From the spot, Mbappé calmly netted his third goal of the tournament.
The World Cup winner has now scored in back-to-back Champions League games and in five consecutive matches across all competitions.
Seven minutes into the second half, Real doubled their lead with a moment of brilliance. Spotting Almaty’s defense out of position, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois launched a high ball forward. Mbappé latched onto it, broke the offside trap, and finished with a delicate lob over the advancing keeper.
He could have had his hat-trick shortly after, but his shot went wide from Vinícius’ return pass inside the box. Courtois then made a superb save in the 62nd minute, denying Luis Mata’s powerful strike from distance to keep the two-goal cushion intact.
In the 67th minute, referee awarded Almaty a penalty when Valery went down inside the box after contact with Dani Ceballos. However, after checking the VAR monitor, the decision was overturned.
The hat-trick finally came in the 75th minute. Substitute Rodrygo danced past several defenders before laying off a short pass to Arda Güler. The youngster fed Mbappé, who unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box to complete his treble.
That took his tally to five goals in two Champions League matches this season, and 13 goals overall in the campaign. The French superstar now has 60 Champions League goals in 89 appearances.
In the 83rd minute, Eduardo Camavinga made it 4-0 with a header from close range after connecting with a Rodrygo cross. Just minutes later, substitute Brahim Díaz hammered the final nail in Almaty’s coffin during stoppage time. He latched onto a pass from Gonzalo García, who had replaced Mbappé, and fired a precise angled shot into the net.
With back-to-back defeats, Almaty remain bottom of the group standings.
