Pep Guardiola is feeling the drive to do even better.
Manchester City started the season with a big win, but then suffered back-to-back defeats. Leaving that difficult spell behind, the team is now in strong form, much to the delight of the English club’s coach.
Last season had been disappointing for City, and their mission to bounce back began in August with a brilliant 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League opener.
However, the team faced setbacks later that month, losing consecutive league matches. A 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was followed by a narrow 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Since the September international break, City have regained their rhythm. Across all competitions, they remain unbeaten in their last six matches, winning four and drawing two — against Arsenal in the league and Monaco in the Champions League.
In their last three league games, City have collected seven points. Overall, after six matches, they sit seventh in the table with ten points.
City have scored the most goals in the league so far, with 14 strikes, eight of them coming from star striker Erling Haaland.
The team will face Brentford on Sunday. Ahead of the match, Guardiola expressed his excitement about City getting “back on orbit” at Friday’s press conference.
“What we’ve achieved so far is the most satisfying thing. I like this feeling. I also like that we can do even better,” Guardiola said.
After six matches, defending champions Liverpool top the Premier League with 15 points from five wins.
