Spain have confirmed that Rodri has withdrawn from the national squad for the upcoming matches against Georgia and Bulgaria, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced.
The midfielder’s injury troubles continued on Sunday as he was substituted in the 21st minute during Manchester City’s Premier League victory at Brentford.
The 29-year-old sat in the centre circle holding his hamstring before eventually limping off, with Nico González coming on as his replacement.
After the match, Rodri tried to downplay the severity of the issue.
“I felt a little bit in the hamstring — but it seems as though it’s not that much,” Rodri told Sky Sports.
“I stretched a bit, like in the final of the Euros [when he had to go off injured]. But the most important thing is it’s not that big.”
Rodri has been steadily working on his fitness and sharpness as he aims to return to peak form for both club and country after a serious knee injury last season.
He underwent surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee following an injury, which also affected his meniscus, during a Premier League clash with Arsenal in September 2024.
Having initially returned to action at the end of last season, Rodri has spent recent weeks building his fitness, hoping to regain the form that earned him the Ballon d’Or last year.
