That would be the biggest achievement of my career,” said the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
Since Carlo Ancelotti took charge of Brazil, Bento has been included in every squad announced by the Italian coach. However, the 26-year-old shot-stopper isn’t taking his place in the national team for granted. Even though he isn’t one of Brazil’s first-choice goalkeepers yet, he’s already picturing himself playing in the next World Cup.
Bento received his first Brazil call-up in August 2023 but had to wait several months to make his debut. His long-awaited international debut finally came in March 2024, in a friendly match against England.
Over the past few years, Alisson and Ederson have been Brazil’s main goalkeepers, which limited Bento’s chances to feature regularly. So far, he has made only four appearances for the national team.
However, with Alisson sidelined by injury, Bento’s chances of playing in the upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan have significantly increased.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Bento—Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate at Al Nassr—said he remains fully committed to working hard to stay in the squad.
“I can’t assume my place in the team is guaranteed. I’ll never think that way. My mentality is always to keep pushing for success and to earn my spot again in the future. Thank God I rarely get injured, and that’s very important for staying in the national team.”
“If I do make it to the World Cup squad, it would be the greatest achievement of my career. I’ll keep working hard to make that dream come true.”
