Bangladesh gave fans hope of a spectacular victory by taking the lead in the very third minute.
The early goal set the tone, and although they couldn’t extend the lead, Bangladesh seemed on track to secure the win. But a last-minute strike shattered those hopes, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw with Jordan.
On Monday, in their first match of the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers at Aqaba Stadium, Bangladesh shared points with the hosts.
Despite missing out on victory, Bangladesh’s hopes of qualifying remain alive. To advance from the group stage, they will face Chinese Taipei in their second and final ‘H’ Group match on Friday.
Bangladesh took the lead in the third minute. From outside the box, Mamoni Chakma’s free-kick hit the wall and bounced up, allowing Suravi Akand Preeti to head it into the net.
In the seventeenth minute, Jordan’s Haya Abu Ali attempted a long-range free-kick, but Bangladesh goalkeeper Meghla Rani Rai made an easy save. Moments later, Preeti had a good chance inside the box but shot wide of the post.
Until halftime, Alpi Akter and Mamina delivered several crosses from both flanks, but Preeti and Purnima couldn’t convert them, leaving the scoreline unchanged.
In the second half, Jordan pressed, but Bangladesh’s defense held strong, preventing Meghla from being truly tested. In the 61st minute, Mamina controlled a cross from the right, cut past a defender, but her shot went off target, adding to the frustration.
Jordan equalized in the 88th minute. After Bangladesh’s defenders failed to clear the ball, Maria Zara intercepted a through pass, rounded the goalkeeper, and found the net. A minute later, Bangladesh seemed to score again, but it was ruled out for offside. Shortly after, the final whistle blew, and the potential three points slipped away.
