According to media reports, the release clause for the Dutch midfielder has been increased from €40 million to €60 million.
After days of speculation, the official announcement has finally arrived: Frenkie de Jong has signed a new contract with Barcelona. The Dutch midfielder will remain at the Catalan club until 2029.
La Liga champions confirmed the news of the 28-year-old’s new deal in a statement on Wednesday.
De Jong’s previous contract with Barcelona was set to run until June 2026, but he could have negotiated a pre-contract with another club as early as this January.
Spanish media also reported that his release clause has been raised from €40 million to €60 million.
De Jong joined Barcelona from Dutch club Ajax in 2019 and has gradually become a key figure in the team’s midfield.
So far, he has played 267 matches for Barcelona, scoring 19 goals and providing 24 assists. He has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups with the club.
