Manchester City 2 – 0 Everton
It truly feels like Manchester City’s goal machine is enjoying the best form of his career.
After the break, Erling Haaland came alive in his trademark fashion — scoring twice to seal a comfortable win that sent City back to the top of the Premier League table.
Pep Guardiola’s men claimed a 2-0 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. With five wins and one draw from eight matches, City now sit at the summit with 16 points.
Arsenal, who also have 16 points but a game in hand, dropped to second. Mikel Arteta’s side could reclaim the top spot with a win away at Fulham.
Everton had their best chance in the 14th minute when Portuguese forward Beto narrowly missed from close range. Moments later, they nearly conceded an own goal — defender Jake O’Brien’s attempted clearance from a corner struck the crossbar before bouncing away.
City created several good chances throughout the first half, taking nine shots with three on target, but Savinho and Niko O’Reilly couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Haaland, who has been in phenomenal form for both club and country since the start of the season, had a quiet first half by his standards. But after the interval, he came roaring back — scoring twice in five minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
In the 58th minute, O’Reilly’s cross found Haaland just outside the box, and the Norwegian forward broke the deadlock with a powerful header. That goal marked his sixth consecutive league game and eighth straight match in all competitions with a goal for City.
Moments later, City doubled their lead. Savinho made a quick run into the box from the left and cut the ball back perfectly for Haaland, who fired it home with his left foot.
Haaland has now scored 11 goals in eight Premier League matches this season and 14 in 10 across all competitions.
City maintained full control for the rest of the game, cruising to their third consecutive league victory. Haaland even came close to completing a hat-trick late on, but couldn’t quite take the final chance.
