Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace
Eberechi Eze finally found the net just a couple of months after joining Arsenal, guiding Mikel Arteta’s team to a hard-fought victory against Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, in another Premier League clash, Manchester City suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.
At the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Arsenal edged Crystal Palace 1-0, while City fell by the same scoreline at Villa Park.
The win solidifies Arsenal at the top of the table. With seven wins and one draw from nine matches, the Gunners have 22 points. Bournemouth climbed to second after a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, collecting 18 points, with Sunderland in third just one point behind. City, after their third loss, drop to fourth with 16 points.
Arsenal’s Fourth Consecutive Win
Eze, now establishing himself as a top-level player in the Premier League, had a quiet first half against Palace. But in the 39th minute, he surprised everyone and put Arsenal ahead.
The goal came from a free-kick routine that Arsenal has made increasingly dangerous. Palace failed to clear the ball from the D-box, leaving Eze with a loose ball which he smashed into the net for his first league goal for the Gunners.
In the first 20 minutes of the second half, Arsenal created two good chances, but headers from Gabriel Magalhães and Victor Yokerees narrowly missed the target.
Crystal Palace offered little threat throughout, allowing Arsenal to secure their seventh consecutive win across all competitions without much trouble.
Aston Villa 1-0 Manchester City
After a third defeat, Pep Guardiola’s side drops a spot in the league table.
City’s Third Defeat in Five Matches
In a quiet first half, both sides managed just one shot on target. City failed to capitalize, while Aston Villa took advantage. In the 19th minute, Matt Cash fired a powerful shot from outside the D-box to give Villa the lead.
Erling Haaland, who had scored in 12 consecutive club and international matches this season, struggled. In the 71st minute, he had a golden chance to break his drought but directed his header straight at the goalkeeper. He found the net later in the 89th minute, but VAR ruled it out. Earlier, teammate Marmoush had put Villa ahead.
This marks City’s third defeat in their last five matches against Villa, leaving Guardiola’s team with a bitter taste to take home.
