Cristiano Ronaldo is stepping onto the pitch in Dublin fully prepared for a chorus of boos from nearly 52,000 fans.

Along with facing the Irish players, the Portuguese captain knows he’ll have to deal with the home supporters too. Aware of the challenge ahead, Ronaldo admitted he’s expecting constant jeers from the stands of the Aviva Stadium — but promised to keep his cool and remain the “good boy.”

Portugal will face Ireland at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Thursday in a World Cup qualifying clash. A win would secure Portugal’s spot in the tournament.

However, the expected boos from Irish fans stem from a previous encounter. In last month’s meeting between the two sides, Ronaldo celebrated Ruben Neves’ late winning goal right in front of Irish defender Jake O’Brien — something the Irish fans certainly didn’t appreciate.

Ronaldo knows the Irish crowd will respond this time, but he insists he’s not worried.

“I really like the fans here. The way they support their national team is amazing. It’s great to be back here and to play again,” said Ronaldo.

“Of course, our job won’t be easy. I just hope they don’t boo me too much tomorrow!” he added with a smile. “I promise I’ll try to be a ‘good boy.’ But of course, I have to do my job — I’ll try to help my team win and score goals. I’m sure it will be a tough match.”

Irish supporters are known for making things difficult for visiting teams. Their passionate support for their side, combined with efforts to unsettle the opposition, makes playing in Ireland a true challenge. With this match being crucial for Ireland’s qualification hopes, Ronaldo expects their fans to be even louder than usual.

“It’s natural because they know if they lose, they’re out. So they’ll try to create that kind of atmosphere and do everything they can. We just have to be ready for a tough battle,” Ronaldo said.

“They’re a good team, and we’re prepared. Hopefully, it will be a good match for Portugal, and we’ll try our best to win.”

Portugal will be without their midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes, who is suspended for the match.
