Harry Kane says that scoring goals alone isn’t enough to fulfill his dream of winning the Ballon d’Or—team trophies are essential too.
Kane has always had a close relationship with goals, but this season, that bond has reached new heights. Whether for his club or country, he has been relentlessly finding the back of the net. Yet, for Kane, chasing the Ballon d’Or isn’t just about personal tallies; winning team trophies is non-negotiable.
This season, Kane has been in unstoppable form. For Bayern Munich, he has scored 23 goals in just 17 matches across all competitions. For England, he has netted three times in four games. Last month, he scored twice in England’s 5–0 win over Latvia, securing their place in the World Cup.
England still have two qualifiers left against Serbia and Albania. While the team has already booked its World Cup berth, these matches are crucial for honing performance, and for Kane, they’re vital to maintain his scoring momentum.
With the way he’s playing, discussions about him as a potential Ballon d’Or winner have already begun. Kane himself nurtures the dream, but he emphasizes that individual performance alone isn’t enough.
“This season I could score 100 goals, but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, maybe I won’t win the Ballon d’Or. The same applies to (Erling) Haaland or any player. You have to win the big trophies.”
“At Bayern Munich, we’re in a very strong position. England too. Maybe the circumstances are currently leaning a bit in my favor. I hope… if everything continues like this for club and country, then I will certainly be in the conversation for trophies like the Ballon d’Or.”
The path to the Ballon d’Or is still long, but Kane is thrilled with how the season has begun.
“I’ve had countless great moments in my career. But overall, I feel that physically, mentally, and with the way goals are coming, I’m more engaged in the game than any other year. Everything is going really well.”
