Barcelona are finally set to return to the Camp Nou for their La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao.
The Catalan club has received permission to play at the Camp Nou once again. After more than two years away, Barcelona will be back at their home ground at the end of this month.
Barcelona officially confirmed on Monday that Saturday’s La Liga fixture against Athletic Bilbao will be played at the Camp Nou.
The club last played at the stadium in May 2023, before large-scale renovation work began. As part of the jersey and stadium sponsorship deal with audio-streaming platform ‘Spotify’, the venue was renamed the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona had planned several times to return earlier, but delays in approval kept pushing the date back. Now, that long wait is finally coming to an end.
The team recently held an open training session at the stadium as a test run. This time, they will play in front of 45,000 fans.
During the renovation period, Barcelona played most of their home games at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc, with a few matches held at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
In the race to defend their league title, Barcelona have fallen slightly behind. With 9 wins and 1 draw from 12 matches, they sit second in the table on 28 points. Their rivals Real Madrid lead the standings with 31 points from 10 wins and 1 draw in the same number of games.”
