After more than two years away, the World Cup-winning French midfielder is now on the verge of returning to competitive football.
Paul Pogba’s long wait is finally nearing its end. For the first time, he has been included in AS Monaco’s squad, putting him just steps away from playing a competitive match after more than two years.
Monaco will face Rennes away on Saturday in Ligue 1, and head coach Sébastien Pocognoli has named the 32-year-old Pogba in the matchday squad.
Pogba signed a two-year contract with Monaco at the end of June. During the signing ceremony, he broke down in tears. His last appearance in competitive football came in September 2023.
Throughout his career, Pogba has often found himself surrounded by controversy. In February 2024, he was handed a four-year ban for doping, which was later reduced to 18 months after an appeal.
Last month, he came very close to making his debut for Monaco, but an ankle injury forced him to wait even longer. Now, that long wait is finally coming to an end.
