Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is taking responsibility for the team’s struggles onto his own shoulders.
Facing harsh criticism from former club players, Amorim made no attempt to defend himself. He admitted that the results falling short of expectations are his responsibility. However, he believes the team and coaching staff are being judged without the full context.
United have won just two of their last six Premier League matches and sit eighth in the table.
The biggest issue for the team has been inconsistency. Over the past two months, they have shown signs of recovery multiple times, only to fall back again. Many are placing the blame squarely on the coach.
Last week, former club midfielder Paul Scholes claimed that Amorim is not the right man to lead United because he does not understand the club’s culture.
Ahead of Monday’s league clash with Bournemouth, Amorim was asked about Scholes’ comments. He said the main problem is simple: the team is not winning.
“If I were on a winning streak, I would walk onto the pitch like a hero, even with just two defenders, everything would be fine. The problem is that as a coach, I am not doing well enough — that is the reality. That is the only problem. I am not performing as expected as Manchester United’s coach. We should have more points, especially this season. So naturally, I accept all the criticism.”
Amorim also pointed out that outsiders do not know everything happening inside the club.
“Sometimes they (former players) don’t have all the information and they see Manchester United the way they experienced it when they played here. (Back then the club had only one goal) to always win. So seeing the club in this situation is difficult for them.”
The Manchester United vs Bournemouth clash will kick off at 2 AM Bangladesh time at Old Trafford.
