Wolverhampton Wanderers have matched an unwanted Premier League record for the longest winless run from the start of a season.
Their struggles deepened further after a home defeat against Brentford, extending Wolves’ miserable run to 17 consecutive matches without a win since the beginning of the campaign. The setback added to an already grim season for the Midlands club.
In Saturday’s Premier League fixture, Wolverhampton went down 2–0, as Brentford claimed only their second away victory of the season, leaving the home side drowning in frustration.
Wolves have now become the fourth team in Premier League history to lose 10 or more consecutive matches in a single season. With no victories since the start of the campaign, they have equalled the longest winless run from matchday one — a dubious record previously set by Sheffield United in the 2020–21 season.
Wolverhampton have not tasted a top-flight win since April 26, yet head coach Rob Edwards insists his team is showing signs of improvement. However, there was little evidence of that progress on Saturday.
After 17 matches, Wolves have collected just two points and now sit 14 points behind Leeds United, who occupy 17th place. Avoiding relegation is becoming an increasingly difficult task as the season progresses.
With defeat following defeat, the club is also facing the grim possibility of breaking Derby County’s record-low Premier League points tally of 11, a mark that still stands as the worst in league history.
