Unai Emery’s side has maintained a strong position in the title race.
Aston Villa bounced back brilliantly after their heavy defeat at Arsenal. By defeating Nottingham Forest, Emery’s team pushed Manchester City further down the league table.
The hosts secured a 3-1 victory at Villa Park on Saturday, with John McGinn scoring twice. Along with returning to winning ways, Villa also moved up to second place in the league standings.
Earlier, Villa had suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat at Arsenal’s ground last Tuesday, ending their streak of eight consecutive league wins and eleven across all competitions.
However, that loss did not dent Villa’s confidence. Just before halftime against Forest, they took the lead through a powerful strike from Ollie Watkins.
In the fourth minute of the second half, captain McGinn doubled the lead with a left-footed flick. Morgan Gibbs-White gave Forest hope by pulling one back shortly after.
But in the 73rd minute, McGinn scored his second goal of the match, securing Villa’s path to victory. The win marked their 11th consecutive home win across all competitions.
With 13 wins and 3 draws from 20 games, Villa sit second with 42 points. Manchester City, having played one more match, drop to third with 41 points.
Arsenal, also with a game in hand, remain top with 45 points.
