Bayern Munich’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga came to an end in the 19th round.
Despite taking the lead early, Bayern were unable to hold onto their advantage. In a stunning finish, FC Augsburg scored twice within six minutes to secure a remarkable victory.
At the Allianz Arena on Saturday, the reigning champions went down 2–1 to Augsburg.
This marked Bayern’s first league defeat of the season, ending their unbeaten streak in the 19th round. Over the past two seasons, Bayern had gone 27 league matches without a loss.
Just this past Wednesday at the same stadium, Bayern had defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 2–0 to secure their place in the Champions League knockout stage. Against Augsburg, Hiroki Ito put Bayern ahead in the 23rd minute.
Despite good chances for Harry Kane and Luis Dias in the first half, the lead was not extended.
Arthur equalised for the visitors in the 75th minute, before Massengo gave Augsburg the winning edge in the 81st minute. That goal proved decisive.
After 19 matches, Bayern sit top of the table with 50 points from 16 wins and 2 draws. Borussia Dortmund are second on 39 points, having played one game fewer.
FC Augsburg rise to 13th place with 19 points from 19 matches.
