With a big win, Mikel Arteta’s side has moved seven points clear of Manchester City at the top of the league table.
Arsenal’s performance in the opening hour was below expectations. Yet, they managed to take a two-goal lead. Later, by increasing their attacking intensity, they scored two more times to secure a dominant victory for Mikel Arteta’s team.
On Saturday at Leeds United’s ground, Arsenal won the Premier League clash 4-0. Their goals came from Martin Ødegaard, Viktor Gyokeres, and Gabriel Jesus, with the fourth being an own goal by the home goalkeeper.
This win gave Arsenal their first Premier League victory in three matches, after two draws and a defeat in the previous rounds.
After 24 matches, Arsenal sit atop the table with 16 wins, five draws, and 53 points. Manchester City and Aston Villa follow in second and third with 46 points each, though both teams have played one game fewer.
The Gunners faced a late scare just before kickoff. Bukayo Saka, who remained on the bench for the full 3-2 Champions League win over Qarabağ on Wednesday, was initially named in the starting XI. However, he withdrew from the squad after experiencing a physical issue during warm-ups.
Arsenal had already lost another key player, Mikel Merino, to injury before this trip. The team’s first-half display was also underwhelming, and Leeds, hovering near the relegation zone, failed to produce any real threat.
The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. Midfielder Subimendi powered a header from Noni Madueke’s cross into the net.
Ten minutes later, Leeds fell further behind due to a goalkeeper error. Madueke, starting in place of Saka, took a corner that Leeds keeper Carl Darlow failed to deal with properly, letting the ball cross the line.
Arsenal had only taken two shots in the first half, but found their third in the 69th minute. From the right, Gabriel Martinelli delivered into the six-yard box, and Gyokeres controlled the ball under pressure to slot it past the keeper.
The Swedish striker had previously scored a brace in August against Leeds in a 5-2 victory.
Ten minutes after Gyokeres was substituted, Arsenal added a fourth through Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian forward finished from inside the D-box after a pass from Martin Ødegaard.
