Tottenham Hotspur have sacked their coach following a defeat against Newcastle United.
It hasn’t been a smooth time for Tottenham Hotspur, both on and off the pitch. Coach Thomas Frank struggled to get the team firing on all cylinders. That struggle was compounded by the latest loss to Newcastle United, and after just eight months in charge, Frank has now left the Spurs dugout.
In the English Premier League on Tuesday, Tottenham lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle. The defeat leaves them in 16th place on the league table, just five points above the relegation zone.
Tottenham have now gone eight league games without a win, their longest winless run since October 2008. In their last 17 league matches, they’ve won just two and picked up only 12 points.
The club initially wanted to give Frank more time, but the failure against Newcastle forced their hand. Recent erratic performances have convinced the board that “a change is necessary.”
Earlier, poor form had already cost Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou his job last June. Frank had taken over with a contract running until 2028, but he couldn’t even complete a year in charge.
