Bangladesh’s archer has secured a medal by defeating his Chinese Taipei opponent in the semi-final.
After a disappointing run at the global archery events earlier this year, Bangladesh has finally broken the cycle of frustration. Abdur Rahman Alif has reached the final of the Men’s Recurve Singles (Leg-2) at the Asia Cup Archery, guaranteeing a medal for Bangladesh.
The competition is taking place in Singapore. On Tuesday, Alif beat Chen Pin-An of Chinese Taipei 6-2 in set points in the semi-final. He will now face Japan’s Miyata Gakuto on Friday for the title.
Starting from the elimination round with a bye, Alif defeated China’s Alin 6-2 to advance to the last 32. He then overcame Malaysia’s Muhammad Shafik 6-4, followed by a thrilling 7-3 victory against Chinese Taipei’s Lee Kai-Yen to reach the semi-finals.
In the battle for a spot in the final against Chen Pin-An, Alif started strong, winning the first set 26-25. However, the next two sets went narrowly against him by scores of 28-27 and 28-27.
Showing great resilience, Alif bounced back to win the fourth set 29-25, leveling the match. The contest was decided in the fifth set, where after intense competition, Alif edged out a 28-27 victory.
