After starting their campaign with a draw, Luis de la Fuente’s team finished the Nations League group stage with five consecutive wins.

After an underwhelming start, Spain took the lead twice, but Switzerland fought back on their home ground, keeping their hopes of earning points alive. However, the situation changed in the final moments. Spain secured a dramatic 3-2 victory, concluding the Nations League group stage on a high note.

On Monday night, in a thrilling second half, Spain won 3-2 at home.

Spain took the lead in the first half with a goal from Yeremi Pino. In the second half, Joel Monteiro leveled the score for Switzerland, but Spain regained the lead thanks to a substitute, Bryan Gil, who scored his first goal for the national team in three years.

Late in the game, Andy Zekiri converted a penalty to equalize for Switzerland, but in added time, Spain’s Bryan Zaragoza sealed the victory with a penalty of his own.

With this win, Spain had already secured their place in the quarterfinals as group leaders. Switzerland, on the other hand, was confirmed to drop to League B.

After starting with a draw, Spain finished their group in League A with five consecutive wins, earning 16 points in Group 4.

Meanwhile, Denmark secured a quarterfinal spot by finishing second in the group after a goalless draw against Serbia. Denmark had 8 points from 6 matches, while Serbia finished with 6 points. Switzerland ended up last in the group with just 2 points.

Spain dominated possession throughout the match, but they struggled to find the target in the first 30 minutes. They finally broke the deadlock in an eventful goal. After Álvaro Morata was fouled in the box, Spain was awarded a penalty. Pedri’s spot-kick was saved by the Swiss goalkeeper, but the clearance was poor, allowing Nico Williams to fire a volley that was cleared off the line by a defender. The ball then fell to Pino, who scored from the rebound.

At the start of the second half, Monteiro wasted a golden opportunity to equalize when he missed an open shot on goal. But in the 63rd minute, Monteiro redeemed himself, controlling a cross and scoring a fine shot into the bottom corner, leveling the score.

Just five minutes later, Bryan Gil restored Spain’s lead. After losing control of the ball in the box, he stole it back and scored with a left-footed shot in the 60th minute. This was Gil’s first international goal, coming as a replacement for the injured Lamine Yamal.

In the 85th minute, Zekiri converted a penalty to equalize for Switzerland after a foul by Spain’s Fabian Ruiz.

In the third minute of added time, Zaragoza scored the decisive penalty, which he earned himself, securing the dramatic 3-2 victory for Spain.
