Barcelona 1:2 Las Palmas
Barcelona had started the season brilliantly, winning match after match and dreaming of reclaiming their dominance. One of the key players leading this resurgence was Lamine Yamal. However, after Yamal suffered an injury at the start of this month, Barcelona lost their way.
Without this winger, Barcelona failed to secure a win in their last two league matches, suffering one loss and drawing the other. Today, at their home ground, the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys, Yamal made his return against Las Palmas. But even the return of one of their best players couldn’t save Barcelona from defeat. Despite playing well throughout the match, Barcelona lost 2–1 to Las Palmas, marking the end of an 11-match winning streak at home.
This loss will bring a smile to their arch-rivals, Real Madrid. After being six points behind following El Clásico, Real Madrid has made a strong comeback in the title race. With 34 points from 15 matches, Barcelona is still at the top, but Real Madrid, with 30 points from 13 matches, can overtake them if they win their two games in hand.
Barcelona had a great chance to take the lead in the 5th minute, but Fermín López missed narrowly. Las Palmas then squandered a fantastic opportunity in the 11th minute after several attempts in the box. While Barcelona dominated possession and attack, Las Palmas showed resilience, constantly putting pressure on Barcelona’s defense with their counterattacks and solid defending, particularly in the box where they blocked Barcelona’s shooting opportunities.
Just before halftime, Raphinha scored, but the goal was ruled offside. In added time, Raphinha came close again, his shot hitting the crossbar after a brilliant pass from Gavi.
Determined to get back into the game, coach Hansi Flick brought Yamal on as a substitute right after halftime. But Las Palmas stunned Barcelona in the 49th minute, taking the lead. On a counterattack, former Barcelona player Sandro Ramírez finished beautifully to give Las Palmas the advantage.
Barcelona, desperate to recover, launched attack after attack, but Las Palmas’ defense held firm. In the 58th minute, Yamal almost scored, but it was Raphinha who brought Barcelona level in the 61st minute with a stunning shot. However, Barcelona couldn’t maintain the lead for long. Fabio Silva scored a brilliant goal after receiving a perfect pass from Javier Muñoz, putting Las Palmas back ahead.
Once again trailing, Barcelona threw everything forward in search of an equalizer, coming close multiple times. But Las Palmas’ defense, led by goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, stood strong. Cillessen made some incredible saves throughout the match.
As the match progressed, Barcelona’s attacks grew more intense, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net. In the 82nd minute, Cillessen was once again the hero, expertly saving a free-kick shot from Raphinha to keep Las Palmas ahead.
In the final moments, Barcelona relentlessly attacked, shaking Las Palmas’ defense, but the much-needed goal never came. Ultimately, Barcelona had to leave the field with a defeat.
