A heartbreaking incident unfolded in last night’s Italian Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan. In the 16th minute, Fiorentina’s young midfielder, Edoardo Bove, suddenly collapsed on the field. The 22-year-old’s collapse brought the game to an immediate halt, and he was rushed to Florence’s Careggi Hospital, where he is now under intensive care (ICU) and the close supervision of doctors.
A video circulating on social media shows Bove kneeling on one knee during the game, visibly struggling. Moments later, he attempts to stand and walk but loses control of his body after a few steps and falls. Witnessing this, players from both teams urgently called for medical assistance. The match was subsequently suspended.
Medical staff provided initial treatment on the field, with players and staff from both teams forming a circle around Bove for privacy. Considering the severity of the situation, he was quickly transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Fiorentina later issued a statement providing an update on Bove’s condition. They confirmed that he arrived at the hospital in stable hemodynamic condition (normal blood flow). Initial cardiological and neurological assessments revealed no severe damage to his nervous or cardio-respiratory systems. However, further evaluation is needed to determine his recovery progress. For now, Bove remains under pharmacological sedation.
Bove joined Fiorentina on loan from AS Roma in August and scored his first goal for the club against his parent team in October. He has also represented Italy at the U-21 level and was awaiting his senior team debut.
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso expressed his support, saying, “Edoardo, we are with you. You are an incredible young man.” He also assured that the club stands firmly by Bove’s family during this challenging time.
Meanwhile, Bove’s teammate, Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, posted on X (formerly Twitter), “May God be with you.” AS Roma also expressed solidarity, stating, “You are one of us. We’re with you.”
Fans and football enthusiasts across the world continue to pray for Bove’s swift recovery.
