Barcelona 0–1 Leganés
Barcelona’s struggles continued as the Catalan club suffered a shocking defeat to a bottom-tier team despite dominating the game.
Leganés capitalized on their only clear opportunity to secure the win, while Barcelona’s relentless attacks failed to yield results. Countless missed chances led to a bitter loss for Hansi Flick’s side.
On Sunday night, Barcelona lost 1–0 at home in La Liga, with Sergio González’s early goal deciding the match.
This marked Barcelona’s second consecutive home loss in the league, following their 2–1 defeat to Las Palmas in the previous game.
Barcelona had over 80% possession and took 20 shots, but only four were on target. In contrast, Leganés managed six shots, four of which were on target, including the decisive goal.
The visitors struck early in the third minute. Munir El Haddadi’s shot was deflected by goalkeeper Iñaki Peña, narrowly missing the post. From the resulting corner, Óscar Rodríguez delivered a precise cross, and an unmarked Sergio González headed it into the net. Peña had no chance.
Barcelona’s first opportunity came in the 10th minute when Robert Lewandowski connected with Raphinha’s cross, but Leganés goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović made a stunning save with his knee.
Despite putting Leganés under constant pressure and creating numerous chances, Barcelona struggled to find space in a crowded box often filled with 21 players.
In the 33rd minute, Raphinha came close to equalizing, but his shot, off Alejandro Balde’s cross, hit the crossbar after Dmitrović’s initial touch. Moments later, Dani Olmo’s through ball set up Lewandowski, whose shot was once again saved by Dmitrović.
Barcelona had two golden chances in stoppage time of the first half. In the fourth minute, Olmo failed to take a clean shot from a dangerous position, and in the sixth minute, Lamine Yamal narrowly missed the target.
In the second half, Barcelona intensified their attacks. Leganés defended so deep that Peña, Barcelona’s goalkeeper, frequently had to step into midfield to distribute the ball.
Jules Koundé missed a chance to hit the target in the 52nd minute. Six minutes later, Lewandowski’s header flew over the crossbar. Yamal missed another opportunity in the 69th minute before being substituted for Gavi.
The 79th minute saw Koundé squander a golden chance to equalize. Ferran Torres flicked the ball into his path, but the French defender shockingly sent it wide.
Barcelona had one last chance to salvage a point. In the second minute of added time, Fermín López’s shot was heroically cleared off the line by a Leganés defender.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona remains at the top of the table with 38 points after 18 matches.
Atlético Madrid, with 38 points from 17 matches, and Real Madrid, with 37 points from the same number of games, are close behind. Both teams have a chance to overtake Barcelona.
