Ancelotti crowned FIFA Coach of the Year for leading Real Madrid to glory despite injury woes
Despite battling injuries throughout the season, Carlo Ancelotti guided Real Madrid to a historic treble, earning him the recognition as FIFA’s Best Coach of the Year.
With key players sidelined match after match and struggles to field a full-strength squad, Ancelotti remained the mastermind behind Real Madrid’s stunning success. His efforts were acknowledged as he received the award during the ‘The Best FIFA Football Awards’ ceremony on Tuesday night, handed to him by legendary coach Arsène Wenger.
The Italian tactician outshined formidable competitors, including Lionel Scaloni, who led Argentina to Copa América success, Luis de la Fuente, who guided Spain to the European Championship title, Xabi Alonso, who secured Bayer Leverkusen’s first-ever Bundesliga crown, and Pep Guardiola, who led Manchester City to their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Real Madrid faced injury troubles right from the start of the 2023-24 season, losing key players at critical moments. However, Ancelotti’s sharp tactics ensured there was no dip in performance.
Under his leadership, Real Madrid won the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League title and clinched the La Liga trophy, finishing the season with 95 points, a comfortable 10 points ahead of second-placed Barcelona. Additionally, in January, Madrid defeated Barcelona to claim the Spanish Super Cup.
Ancelotti’s incredible achievements with Real Madrid also earned him the Best Coach award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on October 28, presented by France Football magazine.
