Harry Kane has recovered from his thigh injury and is close to making his return. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany hinted at Kane’s potential involvement in the upcoming league match against RB Leipzig, though he stopped short of confirming if the English star would start.
Kane sustained the injury during Bayern’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on November 30, leaving the field in the first half. The club later confirmed his thigh injury, sidelining him since then. Before the injury, Kane had been in stellar form, scoring 14 goals in 12 Bundesliga matches this season.
Having already returned to training, Kane’s participation in Friday’s home match against Leipzig seems promising. Speaking about his availability, Kompany said:
“He (Kane) may or may not start—I won’t confirm that now. Today’s training session is very important. If everything goes well, he will definitely play tomorrow.”
Since joining Bayern last season, Kane has proven irreplaceable. In his debut Bundesliga campaign, he scored a record 36 goals, and Kompany reiterated the forward’s unique value to the team.
“We’ve said before, you can’t find a direct replacement for Kane. His sense of positioning in the box is incredible. He’s one of the best in the world inside the box, and that’s where he makes the difference. There aren’t many players like him who can do what he does.”
Bayern has also been dealing with injuries to other key players, including João Palhinha, Alphonso Davies, Serge Gnabry, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The absence of these players contributed to Bayern’s first league defeat of the season last Saturday—a 2-1 loss to Mainz.
Despite the setback, Bayern remains at the top of the Bundesliga table with 33 points after 14 rounds. Defending champions Bayer Leverkusen are second with 29 points, while Leipzig sits fourth with 27 points, level with Eintracht Frankfurt.
