A horrific car attack took place at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, leaving the entire nation in shock. The incident, which occurred yesterday evening, resulted in the tragic deaths of two people and injuries to 68 others. Following the attack, police arrested a suspect, a Saudi national.

This devastating event has deeply impacted Germany’s football community. Several clubs, including Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig, expressed their condolences and shared their reactions to the tragedy.

Among the players, Harry Kane shared his heartfelt response, stating that in the face of such events, football becomes insignificant.

The attack also prompted Bayern Munich to cancel their planned Christmas celebrations after their match against Leipzig. The club’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, said in a statement, “This celebration should have been joyful, but now it’s simply not appropriate. I ask everyone to remember the victims and their loved ones.”

RB Leipzig addressed the incident on their Instagram account, writing, “We are stunned by the events in Magdeburg. Our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured and thank the emergency services for their efforts.”

On the same evening as the attack, Bayern defeated Leipzig 5-1 in a Bundesliga match. However, the team refrained from celebrating the victory due to the tragedy. Bayern star Harry Kane wrote on Instagram, “The heartbreaking news from Magdeburg is a clear reminder that, on nights like this, football is far from the most important thing. My sympathies go out to everyone affected by this horrific incident.”

Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning Bundesliga champions, also issued a statement, saying, “The news from Magdeburg has left us deeply shocked. A minute of silence will be observed at tonight’s match at the BayArena, and our players will wear black armbands in remembrance.”
