Everton 0:0 Chelsea
Chelsea had the chance to briefly climb to the top of the Premier League table, but they couldn’t seize the opportunity. In excellent form coming into the match, Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Everton, who managed to secure a valuable point.
The match at Goodison Park on Saturday ended 0-0, snapping Chelsea’s five-game winning streak in the league. A victory would have put them above Liverpool at the top of the table, but Chelsea missed key chances and dropped points. With 10 wins and 5 draws from 17 matches, Chelsea sits second with 35 points, one behind Liverpool, who have played two fewer games.
The match started uneventfully, but Chelsea gradually settled in and dominated the midfield. They held 75% possession, taking 12 shots, with five on target. Everton, in comparison, managed just five shots, four of which were on target.
Chelsea came close to scoring in the 26th minute. Cole Palmer delivered a cross through the legs of an Everton player from the right, finding Nicolas Jackson in front of the goal. However, England’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made an excellent save to deny him.
Six minutes later, Jackson wasted another golden opportunity. From a corner, he found himself unmarked at the far post, but his close-range header struck the post.
Chelsea kept the pressure on in the second half, maintaining possession and launching attacks. However, they struggled to create meaningful chances. Meanwhile, Everton mounted some dangerous counterattacks but couldn’t break through Chelsea’s defenders and goalkeeper.
Chelsea’s next league match is on Thursday against Fulham. Everton, sitting 15th in the table, will face an underperforming Manchester City on the same day.
