If this is Mohamed Salah’s final season at Liverpool, the Egyptian forward is certainly making it count with outstanding performances.
As time goes by, uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future at Liverpool continues to grow. It’s not that his performances have declined or that he’s aging—he’s in brilliant form this season, playing a key role in the team’s victories match after match. Yet, it feels like the club’s management is asleep at the wheel!
Salah’s contract with Liverpool will expire next June, and despite his excellent performances, the club has not offered him a new deal. He has expressed his frustration multiple times, openly admitting that the possibility of his departure seems more likely.
However, this frustration hasn’t affected his performances. He continues to impress. In the most recent Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur, Salah shone brightly, scoring two goals and providing two assists in a 6-3 victory.
When asked after the match if he had received a new contract offer, Salah simply replied, “No.”
Salah also made history in this match, becoming the first player in Premier League history to score and assist double digits before Christmas. With 16 games played this season, Salah has scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists.
At 32 years old, Salah is clearly proud of his achievements.
“Before the match, I wasn’t thinking about it. But I’m happy and proud of this achievement. I just want to keep working hard,” he said.
Salah is now two goals ahead of Erling Haaland (13), who is in second place in the league’s top scorer chart, further strengthening his chances of winning the Golden Boot. Salah has won the Premier League’s top scorer award three times: once individually in the 2017-18 season and twice jointly in the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons.
With 12 wins and 3 draws from 16 games, Liverpool sit atop the league table with 39 points, 4 points ahead of second-placed Chelsea, who have played one more match.
