Rodri is puzzled by Cristiano Ronaldo’s question regarding his Ballon d’Or win.
The Manchester City midfielder was surprised by Ronaldo’s comments about the 2024 Ballon d’Or award. Rodri said he doesn’t understand why the Portuguese star has raised questions about his selection as the winner.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, recently stated that Vinícius Júnior should have won the award in 2024, due to his Champions League victory. He also called it unfair that the Real Madrid forward didn’t receive the honor.
When asked about Ronaldo’s comments, Rodri told Spanish media outlet AS that it was inappropriate for the Portuguese forward to question his Ballon d’Or win.
“To be honest, I was surprised because he knows better than anyone how this award is decided, how the winner is chosen. The journalists who voted this time felt that I should win. Maybe those same journalists voted for him (Ronaldo) in the past, and I think at that time, he accepted it,” said Rodri.
In October, Real Madrid boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony upon learning that Vinícius wouldn’t be receiving the award.
Last season, Vinícius scored 24 goals in 39 matches for Real Madrid across all competitions. He played a key role in the club’s La Liga, Champions League, and Spanish Super Cup victories.
Rodri, who won the Ballon d’Or ahead of Vinícius, played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title and later won the Euro with Spain. Despite not playing in the second half of the final due to injury, he was named the tournament’s best player.
