A couple of days ago, Neymar hinted at the possibility of joining Inter Miami, which sparked speculation about the reunion of the devastating MSN trio. However, the head coach of the U.S. club, Javier Mascherano, quickly shut down the rumors, calling Neymar’s arrival to the team “impossible.”
Neymar, one of the most creative and feared forwards in football, had formed the deadly attacking trio MSN with Messi and Suárez at Barcelona. However, the trio was broken up when Neymar made a record-breaking €222 million transfer to PSG in 2017.
Since then, Neymar has struggled to live up to expectations. In 2023, he left PSG to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, but his time there has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just seven matches in over a year.
His contract with Al-Hilal will end in June 2024, and in a recent interview with CNN, Neymar hinted at a move to Inter Miami, possibly to reunite with Messi and Suárez.
When asked about the possibility of bringing Neymar to Inter Miami, Mascherano, who had played alongside Neymar at Barcelona, acknowledged the Brazilian’s brilliance but said that it was “impossible” at the moment. He explained, “We can’t talk about Neymar because we don’t have anything for that. Of course, Neymar is an extraordinary player, and every coach in the world would want him. But right now, with the salary cap restrictions in MLS, bringing him here is impossible.”
In 2024, Inter Miami had an impressive regular season, winning the Supporters’ Shield, but they were eliminated in the first round of the Major League Soccer playoffs by Atlanta United. Afterward, in November, Gerardo “Tata” Martino stepped down as head coach, and Mascherano was appointed as his successor.
