Colombian star James Rodríguez was on the verge of joining Junior de Barranquilla, a club in his home country. After a long journey through various clubs, his return to Colombia seemed inevitable. However, everything took a dramatic turn at the last moment.
Multiple media outlets have confirmed that discussions between Rodríguez and Barranquilla fell apart. Reports suggest that instead of Barranquilla, Rodríguez might now join the Mexican club León. If this move materializes, Rodríguez would join the list of high-profile stars recently heading to Mexico.
The failed negotiations with Barranquilla have sparked considerable discussion. According to reports, Rodríguez allegedly made some extraordinary demands, including asking for 14 bodyguards if he joined the Colombian club.
It is reported that a lengthy meeting took place between Rodríguez and Barranquilla officials in the Colombian city of Llanogrande. While both sides agreed on some terms, they failed to find common ground on others, ultimately halting the process.
Journalist Fabio Poveda, citing sources within the Colombian club, revealed Rodríguez’s demands. Along with the request for 14 bodyguards, the Colombian forward reportedly insisted the club bring in higher-quality players as teammates.
Following these developments, Barranquilla’s owner, Char Fuad, spoke to journalists about the meeting. He mentioned that Rodríguez’s representatives were not “genuine” during the discussions.
This statement by Barranquilla’s owner appears to have shifted the situation. Now, Rodríguez’s move to León seems like just a matter of time. A leading Mexican TV channel has also confirmed the news of Rodríguez joining León.
The channel, TUDN, reported, “James Rodríguez is coming to León. He will sign a one-year deal with an option for an extension. He is expected to arrive next week and will debut on the second matchday.
