Jürgen Klopp twice finished as Premier League runner-up behind Manchester City during his time as Liverpool manager.
The German coach has built a luxurious bungalow on the Spanish island of Mallorca, though he rarely gets to spend time there due to his busy schedule. However, Klopp has joked that if Manchester City’s titles are stripped due to financial breaches, he’ll host a massive party at his Mallorca home.
Klopp won the Premier League once with Liverpool in the 2019-20 season but had to settle for second place twice, finishing behind City.
In 2023, the Premier League launched an independent commission to investigate allegations of 115 financial regulation breaches by City between 2009 and 2018. Hearings began in September, with City consistently denying all allegations.
Now serving as the Global Soccer Head for Red Bull, Klopp addressed the City investigation during his first public appearance in his new role. When asked how he would feel if City were found guilty and stripped of their titles, Klopp made his feelings clear with a touch of humor:
“I was talking about this when I left Liverpool. I haven’t spent much time in Mallorca because I’ve been traveling so much. But if this happens, I’ve told everyone—whoever wants to come, just book a flight to Mallorca. The beer is on me. We’ll have our own party in my garden.”
Klopp admitted he isn’t closely following the City investigation or aware of when a verdict might be delivered.
When asked about the contract standstill involving Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, Klopp once again replied with humor:
“I’m just glad this situation didn’t happen while I was in charge, so I don’t have to answer these questions every week!”
