Bayern Munich came out on top against a lackluster Hoffenheim, with Harry Kane and Leroy Sané leading the charge in a commanding 5-0 victory.
Bayern thrashed Hoffenheim 5-0
- Sané scored twice, netting a goal in each half.
- Kane was on target, converting a penalty to continue his perfect streak from the spot.
The Bundesliga leaders wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Sané opening the scoring in just the sixth minute. The German winger was electric, tormenting Hoffenheim’s defense with his dribbling and incisive runs in the attacking third.
Bayern quickly doubled their lead in the 12th minute when Raphael Guerreiro finished off a brilliant one-two with Kane, breaking through the Hoffenheim defense. Shortly after, Kane stepped up and calmly converted a penalty, marking his 27th consecutive successful spot-kick for both club and country.
Relentless in the Second Half
Bayern picked up right where they left off, with Sané finding the net again just three minutes after the restart. Mathys Tel’s pinpoint cross set up Sané for a precise finish, leaving Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann with no chance.
With Bayern cruising at 4-0, Vincent Kompany opted to rest some key players, bringing on Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry for Harry Kane and Dayot Upamecano around the hour mark. Gnabry made an instant impact, scoring Bayern’s fifth goal to complete the rout.
DID YOU KNOW?
Kane has converted all 12 penalties he’s taken in the Bundesliga, ranking him third on the league’s list of players with the longest perfect penalty streaks, behind Joachim Abel (16) and Ludwig Nolden (15).
MVP: Leroy Sané
Sané was the standout performer, delivering a brace and a dazzling all-around display. With five goals in his last five league matches, Sané is rediscovering his best form, much to the delight of manager Vincent Kompany.
Biggest Loser: Hoffenheim’s Christian Ilzer
Hoffenheim’s coach, Christian Ilzer, shoulders much of the blame for his team’s lackluster display. Bayern overwhelmed them in the first 15 minutes, scoring twice during that period, and Hoffenheim never showed any urgency to recover. Sitting in 16th place, just three points above the relegation zone with a -14 goal difference, Hoffenheim’s struggles continue to mount.
What’s Next?
Bayern maintains their four-point lead over reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen after this emphatic win. They’ll aim to extend their winning streak when they host Wolfsburg in their next Bundesliga fixture on Saturday.
